What crosses is the name, not the file.
After implosion, a file is held as a strand in the cell and named by fifteen characters: its descriptor. Transmission moves the descriptor. The file stays where it is.
What travels, and what does not
A descriptor is small enough to go anywhere text can go. A terabyte and a one-page letter cross the channel as the same fifteen characters.
- The descriptor: fifteen characters, sealed for the journey
- Nothing that opens it
- The file, held as a strand in the cell
- The grant, held by Implexus
Any channel that carries text
Transmission does not depend on the pipe. Choose the channel for reach and cost, not for size.
Fibre, cellular, satellite, a message or an email.
A radio data channel, as in the use case Live video over radio.
Printed as a scan mark, as in the use case Scan and retrieve.
Read aloud, or written on a note.
Why the channel does not have to be trusted
A descriptor names a file; it does not open it. Anyone who intercepts, copies or photographs one has a pointer and nothing more. Opening still needs the cell, a valid grant and a device the grant allows. A copy that reaches the wrong device stays shut. Security comes from the grant at the far end, not from guarding the route.
The cell and security
What has to be there
Transmission is easy to describe and easy to overstate, so we are precise: the receiving end regenerates the file where the cell is present. The cell must hold the file's strands; any it lacks are sent once. After that, every delivery of the same file is just its descriptor.
How strands first reach a new cell: to confirm with engineering.

Relay is the Transmit step as an API.
Relay moves descriptors between people, systems and devices, and records each hand-off against the grant.

Questions about transmission
Draft answers. To confirm with product and engineering.
How long does transmission take?
As long as the channel takes to carry fifteen characters. We do not publish process times; lengths in our demos are illustrative.
Can a descriptor be sent to many people?
Yes. Each recipient opens the file only if their grant allows it.
What if a descriptor is lost?
The file is not. It stays in the cell, and a new descriptor can be sent. [Re-issue process: to confirm.]
Move the name, not the file.
Start with an evaluation licence, the SDK and Relay.
