When the connection drops, the till still knows who is paying.
BCRemit puts an Implexus chip in the tills across its store network. Identity checks and grants run at the counter, so a store does not close because the link is down.

Every store keeps working, because the check happens at the counter.
BCRemit sends money from the UK, Europe, Canada and the US to the Philippines, and is opening its platform to business customers. Each till checks who the customer is before money moves. Today that check waits on the internet. In this scenario the check runs on the till itself.
- Environment
- Stores with a till on a network that sometimes fails
- What was imploded
- The customer's verified record, as a strand held by BCRemit
- What travelled
- A descriptor, fifteen characters, on a printed mark or a screen
- What regenerated
- The checked details, on the till, for the person the grant names
- What was controlled
- A grant per request: who, which fields, how long. Every opening is recorded
- What was measured
- Being validated
- Status
- Scenario, to confirm
Scenario for discussion. The deployment described is proposed, not live, and no figure here has been measured. BCRemit facts are company statements as reported.
Before and after the chip
The same store, the same customer, the same counter.
- The identity check asks a server. When the link drops, the check stops.
- Staff choose between turning the customer away and skipping the check.
- A busy store can close for the hour, or for the day, until the connection is back.
- Every check is one more request that must reach a data centre and return.
- The till holds the cell. It checks the grant and the person at the counter, with no connection.
- Staff see the same answer online or off: identified, or not, and at what level.
- A dropped link no longer closes the store. Customers who need identity at the counter are served.
- Records of what was opened are kept on the till and sent to BCRemit when the link returns.

A business owner pays at the counter while the link is down.
- 01First
The owner shows the printed mark from the payment request. The till reads the descriptor and the requester, and shows nothing about the payment yet.
- 02Then
The owner is identified at the till: the ID is read and the face matched on the device. The level is checked against what the payment needs.
- 03Finally
The owner consents to a timed grant. The checked details open for five minutes, view only, then seal again. The payment is held under BCRemit's offline limit and settles when the link returns.

ID Verify by ImplexusThe business is asked to confirm who is behind it, with two checks and two owners.
Result, two rolesImplexus says the ID is genuine. BCRemit Compliance reviews. BCRemit holds the strand.
ScanThe approver scans the capsule on the payment request. The Implexus mark opens and closes.
ConsentThe approver sees who asks, which fields, and for how long before agreeing.
Access grantedA timed, view-only grant counts down, then seals again.
BCRemit ComplianceBCRemit makes the regulated decision, with Implexus's authenticity result alongside.

Concept mock with sample names, amounts and descriptors. Not a released BCRemit design.
What holds, online or off
Nothing opens until the person is identified and the level is met. The order does not change when the link is down.
The strand stays with BCRemit. Implexus holds no copy and only supplies the check.
Implexus says whether the ID is genuine. BCRemit Compliance decides what the customer may do.
What was measured, and what it is not
No result is stated until it has been measured, with its method and date.
- Share of store time without a link
- Being validatedBeing validated
- Time to check a customer at the till
- Being validatedBeing validated
- Stores kept open during an outage
- Being validatedBeing validated
- What it is not
- Not a way to settle money without a network. Settlement waits for the link.
Questions about this case
Draft answers. To confirm with product and engineering.
What happens to the payment while the link is down?
The identity check and the grant run at the till. The payment is held under a limit BCRemit sets and settles when the connection returns.
What if a till is lost or stolen?
The till holds sealed material. Without a grant it opens nothing, and BCRemit can end its grants when the link returns.
Is this live?
No. It is a scenario for discussion. The deployment is proposed and nothing here has been measured.
Have a network where the link is not always there?
Tell us the store, the till and the check you need to make at the counter.
